San Francisco Eats!

The San Francisco food scene deserves it’s own blog post. After living there for over three years, I discovered so many gems, but also just scratched the surface.

Below is a list of some delicious spots around the city (categorized by neighborhood). I starred (*) my favorite places, so, if you are only in SF for a short period of time, I recommend prioritizing those spots.

North Beach/ Little Italy:

• Sodini’s (Grandma’s style Italian - best gnocchi)*

• Sotto Mare (Italian fish and pasta - scallops on top of angel hair is to die for!)*

• China Live (up scale dim sum- MUST)*

• Il Casaro (great pizza - sit down)

• Cotogna

• North Beach Restaurant (spaghetti alla vodka is my go to)*

• Golden Boy’s Pizza (best slice - square)*

• Tony’s Pizza (can either sit down or grab a slice to go - NY style)

• Chubby Noodle (boozy brunch)

• Mama’s (brunch—try going on a week day cause weekend lines are PACKED)

• Italian Homemade (quick and easy homemade pasta- lasagna is fabulous)

• The Baked Bear (ice cream)

• 15 Romolo (cocktail bar + small bites)

Russian Hill/Nob Hill:

• Seven Hills (amazing pasta)*

• Union Larder (wine bar + small bites)

• Lemongrass (favorite Thai in the city - casual)

• Elephant Sushi (don’t take reservations'; make sure to go early)*

• Nob Hill Cafe (long wait, but worth it - Italian)

• Mezcalito (Mexican + mezcal bar - great ambiance)

Mission:

• Lolinda (Argentinean steakhouse)*

• Flour + Water (Italian - small portions, but DELICIOUS)*

• Beretta (Italian; cute ambiance)

• Foreign Cinema

• El Techo (rooftop bar with good food/ambiance)

• Farmhouse Kitchen (Thai)

• La Taqueria (best burrito)

• Taqueria Cancun

Pacific Heights:

• Sorrel (BEST bread)*

• Sweet Maple (brunch)*

• Salt & Straw (ice cream)*

Marina:

• A16 (amazing pizza - great ambiance)*

• Mamanoko (Japanese + sushi)

• Flores (Mexican; great ambiance)

• Lucca (Italian sandwiches to go — amazing)*

• Roma Antica (Italian)

• Ace Wasabi (fun sushi/sake spot)

• Rose’s Cafe (brunch)

• Souvla (great quick salad/shawarma/frozen yogurt)

• Blue Barn (basic, but great salads - quick)

• Urban Remedy (favorite to-go salads/juices)

• The Loving Cup (ice cream - has dairy free options)

• Susie Cakes (best bakery)

Castro/ Haight

• Starbelly (amazing brunch and dinner)*

• Kitchen Story (brunch - best millionaire bacon)

• Iza Ramen

• Frances

SOMA:

• Cockscomb (pin bone stead is all you need)*

• Cala

• Bellota (Spanish - good upscale tapas and paella)

Hayes Valley:

• Robin (omakase tasting menu - best sushi I had in SF)*

• Chez Maman (french bistro - also a location on Potrero Hill)

Potrero Hill:

• Plow (amazing brunch)

• Papito (casual and delicious tacos)

• Hazel’s Kitchen (to-go breakfast; bagels)

• Mac Daddy (every type of mac and cheese imaginable)

• Goat Hill Pizza (casual sit down pizza)
